Lesson Planning: Tools for the Pre-College Philosophy Classroom

On this page we offer some teaching tips and tools for engaging your students in philosophical inquiry. The pardigmatic model is that of an in-class discussion or dialogue. How can we get students to talk with and listen to one another? In many cases you will want to use philosophical inquiry to sharpen their critical and creative thinking skills through writing. Finally, in some cases, using a debate format can engage young people in critical reflection as they learn to construct sound arguments, convincingly convey them to others and be able to defend their ideas against critique.
